Whooping Crane eastern population sees the best year yet for wild-hatched chicks
Six wild-hatched Whooping Crane chicks in Wisconsin survived to flight stage in 2018, the most since the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership began restoring a migratory population of the endangered birds in the eastern United States.

A reintroduction success story took place this past weekend, when a Whooping Crane family returned to Wisconsin, flown North courtesy of Windway Capital Corp. of Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

It was my first time in a helicopter, and the experience of flying low over the snow-covered landscape of eastern Wisconsin was truly special. From the air, we saw a multitude of geese, ducks, deer and many other animals – and, of course, cranes, including one Whooping Crane!
