More Ways to Support Us
We Would Love to Welcome You to Our Frequent Flyer Program!
Monthly donors make such a big difference. By making an automatic gift each month, you can ensure that you are consistently growing our far-reaching efforts to save cranes and the threatened places they call home – every day of the year!
Did you know that you can potentially double, or even triple, your gift to the International Crane Foundation?
Many organizations offer employee giving programs that match donations made by their employees to nonprofit charities.
Make a Bequest
You can help safeguard the flock – join the Crane Heritage Society today.
Like the vigilant crane – we all understand the importance of planning for a secure future. The International Crane Foundation has worked tirelessly for decades to safeguard the natural treasures needed by all of Earth’s inhabitants. Planning for a legacy gift now will make a difference for generations to come.
When you become a Crane Keeper, you are donating to the direct daily care of our irreplaceable cranes, and we can’t thank you enough. Honestly, we just can’t do it without you.
Our flock of origami cranes in the Cranes and Culture Plaza at our headquarters is an interactive art installation conveying well wishes, memorials, and inspirational messages.
You can help us care for our cranes by adopting a crane species! Your adoption will help us provide our cranes with food, water, and veterinary care for one year.
Support our birding teams as they set out with binoculars to see how many species they can spot in 24 hours each spring. Pledge a specific dollar amount per species or make a fixed gift. All funds raised will support efforts to save cranes and the places they dance.
You can help ensure our flock receives what they need to stay mentally and physically healthy by purchasing items from our wish list, purchasing gift cards or donating specifically to the Crane Enrichment and Veterinary Programs.
Donor Advised Funds
The International Crane Foundation welcomes gifts from donor-advised funds. If you direct a gift from your donor-advised fund, please let us know so we can thank you for your support. Please note that fulfillment of pledge commitments may not be satisfied with a gift directed from a donor-advised fund. Learn more.
Your gift of appreciated stock will be applied where it is needed most immediately or to the designated program of your choice. In addition to the charitable deduction, as allowed by federal tax law, a gift of appreciated stock allows you to avoid capital gains tax on the appreciation, granting you significant personal tax savings. If a gift of this type is appropriate for you, please download our stock transfer form.
If donating Vanguard open-end mutual fund shares (5 letters in the fund symbol and end of day net asset value pricing), please call or email Steve Kuhn, Chief Financial Officer, at 608-356-9462, ext. 100, or have your advisor do the same for special delivery instructions.
A Gift From Your IRA
If you are 70 ½ years of age or older, you can choose to direct an amount of up to $100,000 per year to the International Crane Foundation as a Qualified Charitable Distribution. Doing so lowers your gross taxable income, thus saving on your overall tax burden. This is a great option for managing the tax effects from Required Minimum Distributions. Please speak with your tax advisor or IRA plan administrator to determine what is best for your situation.
In order to qualify, distributions must be sent directly to the International Crane Foundation, which is a qualified 501(c)(3) organization eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. For more information, contact Steve Kuhn, Chief Financial Officer, at 608-356-9462, ext. 100.
You may decide to make your gift using either cash or appreciated stock over a period of time up to five years, providing the International Crane Foundation with a sustainable source of support. Please contact our development offices in order to pledge a multi-year gift today.
Since 1997, iGive has made it easy for you to give back with your purchases. Join iGive today (for free) here. When you log in and shop their 2,000+ stores, the average donation to your selected cause is about 3 percent, with some stores offering 25 percent or higher!
Donate Your Car
Donate your unwanted vehicle to the International Crane Foundation! We’ll use the proceeds from the sale to support our mission to conserve cranes and the ecosystems, watersheds and flyways on which they depend.
Here’s How It Works:
- Call 855-500-RIDE | 855-500-7433 or Submit the Online Vehicle Donation Form here. Our Vehicle Donation Support Team will contact you to complete the donation and confirm your pick-up information.
- Schedule Your Free Pick-up: In most cases, your vehicle pick-up can be scheduled within three business days once the donation record has been completed. Our vehicle donation program has also requested that drivers practice safe and secure interactions with donors, including minimizing contact.
- Receive a Donation Receipt: Vehicle donations are tax-deductible! An initial donation receipt is provided at the time of the pick-up. If the vehicle sells for $500 or less, donors are also mailed a thank-you letter within 30 days of the sale of the vehicle, which serves as a tax receipt. If the vehicle sells for more than $500 and the donor has provided their tax identification number, an IRS Form 1098-C will be mailed to the donor within 30 days of the sale stating the amount of gross proceeds (the maximum amount of your tax deduction) received from your donation. For specific tax-related questions, please consult a tax advisor.
The International Crane Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Our programs are advanced through the careful use of our donors’ charitable investments. We deeply value and respect your commitment to our work and use your funds responsibly. We consistently receive high marks for our sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.
