Travels with George: Following the Siberian Crane migration in Yakutia, Russia
Pointing upward and to the west, she cried, “Look up!” Twenty-eight sets of glistening white wings tipped in black cut with rapid beats into the still, cold air before they vanished beyond the forest of white birch. We were without words!

Jim Harris – Decades of Dedication
On the occasion of his retirement from the International Crane Foundation, I find myself reflecting on my long friendship with Jim Harris. Jim has been a close friend these many years, and our organization has greatly benefited from his unwavering dedication and leadership.
End of an Era – Our Deepest Gratitude to the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center
In 1964, a juvenile Whooping Crane with a broken wing was retrieved from Wood Buffalo National Park in subarctic Canada. He was named CAN-US by the two countries fervently working to save the last remaining Whooping Cranes. At that time, the outlook for Whooping Cranes was bleak.
Travels with George: Returning Sarus Cranes to Thailand
The idea for an Eastern Sarus Crane reintroduction program in Thailand “hatched” at an International Crane Workshop in 1983 hosted by the Government of India and the International Crane Foundation.
Travels with George: Sunrise at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, Texas
Along the coast of Texas, the morning of Dec. 5, 2017, was perfect. Clear star-filled skies merged into a gorgeous sunrise over the Gulf of Mexico, amidst a calm that reflected Whooping Cranes and White Pelicans in mirror-like waters of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.
