po·et·ry | noun | Literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature. Definition from Oxford Languages
While at a recent Africa Crane Conservation Program workshop in Zambia, we discovered that a few of our team members are poets! Some of the team also use their writing to teach children through song, pictured right. So, we decided to start a poetry group where we could help and encourage each other.
Of course, there is no point in writing poems and keeping them to ourselves! We share poems within our monthly team meeting, and we also have a WhatsApp group where we chat, share ideas and poems. We have been experimenting in ways to share our poems on social media and started to produce videos. This is still very much a learning process, but we are excited to share our stories with you! ~ Lara Jordan, Drakensberg Coordinator, South Africa
