Dances with Cranes Presentation with Dr. George Archibald
Apr 22, 2025 @ 6 PM – 7 PMIn April of 1976, Whooping Cranes were on the verge of extinction – until ornithologist Dr. George Archibald learned to dance with them. To save the species, he began to devote seven years of his life to mastering the courtship dance of Whooping Cranes to boost their population and reintroduce them to the wild. Since then, Dr. Archibald has traveled the world to save cranes and the places where they thrive. His visionary leadership in international conservation over the last fifty years has given flight to extraordinary grassroots recovery efforts across the globe.
Joining us in the Main Reading Room of the Charleston Library Society, Dr. Archibald will regale with the transformative experiences that led to the International Crane Foundation, the rescue of the endangered Whooping Crane, and the dance that saved them.
