Whooping Crane Biographies

Over the last 40 years, the International Crane Foundation and our partners have developed a series of reintroduction projects to establish new, wild Whooping Crane populations in North America.

Today, as a result of years of dedication, two additional Whooping Crane populations are established. The first population migrates through the eastern United States, while the second is a non-migratory population in the species’ historic range in southern Louisiana. In 2006 and 2016, the first wild chicks successfully fledged in these reintroduced populations – symbols of hope for the future of Whooping Crane conservation.
