The Whooping Crane is the largest bird in North America with a height of almost 5 feet and a wingspan of 7-8 feet.
These great birds were reduced to a population of just 21 in the 1940's. Thanks to extensive efforts headed by the International Crane Foundation, there are now more than 650 in the wild.
Although still endangered, the Whooping Cranes' continuing recovery is a beacon of hope.
