Pedaling the Whooper Highway
Imagine pedaling by bike, 2,500 miles through the heart of the Great Plains–following an ancient migration of one of the rarest birds in the world, powered by grit, determination, and love for a species we almost lost.
This spring, a photographer and an ecologist are setting out to do just that.
This two-month journey begins on May 11, 2026, on the Texas Gulf Coast and will end in central Saskatchewan. Conservation photographer Mike Forsberg and our Central Flyway Program Director, Dr. Andy Caven, invite you to be part of the journey—bike with them, meet them along the route, or support the effort through a donation. AND if you give through the end of May, your donation will be matched by our generous donor, Diane Crookham-Johnson, for up to $10,000.
Your donation will support Platte Basin Timelapse and the International Crane Foundation for the bike trip, other regional outreach and education efforts, and Whooping Crane conservation in the Central Flyway.
