Tuesday, Aug. 5 | 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Gather with Crane Legacy Society members and President and CEO Dr. Rich Beilfuss to experience the restored tall grass prairie at the International Crane Foundation’s headquarters in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Sandhill Crane Project Manager and prairie restoration expert Andy Gossens will lead you on a walking tour, exploring prairie ecology along the way. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes peek into our Field Ecology Lab and learn how the International Crane Foundation manages prairies through seed collection, forestry, and prescribed fire. Wrap up the day with a complimentary pizza lunch on the prairie.

Featured Speaker for Pizza on the Prairie
Andy Gossens, Sandhill Crane Project Manager
Originally from the Madison area, Andy graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in 2002. After working with birds and other species through rehabilitation, zoo, and veterinary positions, he joined the International Crane Foundation as an intern in the Field Ecology Department (now the North America Program) in the spring of 2007. After completing this internship, Andy stayed on to manage field work related to the Foundation’s long-term research of Sandhill Crane near Briggsville, Wisconsin and assist with prescribed burning and other landscape restoration duties at the headquarters in Baraboo, Wisconsin. In 2016, Andy took over restoration management responsibilities in addition to continuing to manage Sandhill Crane field research. Since then, he has led work that has included invasive species management, tree clearing for oak savanna restoration, seed collection and prairie plantings, as well as creating a restoration management plan for the International Crane Foundation’s headquarters property.
