Steve is a retired petroleum geologist who has had a 37-year career with Phillips Petroleum and ConocoPhillips. He is a graduate of Kansas State University. He spent his career in exploration and geoscience technology, with over 13 years in international assignments in Europe, Asia, Australia and Latin America, as well as Texas and Oklahoma. During his overseas work, he had many learning experiences in various habitats, seeing the pressures of population expansion and development on the environment. Equally, he experienced diverse cultures and participated in each opportunity to foster conservation and appreciate birdlife.
He has served on the boards of several conservation and ornithological organizations, including The Haribon Society of the Philippines, Houston Audubon Society, Texas Audubon, Coastal Prairie Conservancy, Gulf Coast Joint Venture, and was a founding member of the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory.
Throughout his life, since age 13, Steve has been an avid birder and has been ranked in Cornell University’s top 100 eBirders globally. He is also an avid amateur bird photographer and has submitted more than 7,000 photos of more than 3,000 species to Cornell’s databases.
When not birding, Steve enjoys golf and traveling internationally with his wife, Elizabeth, and their family.
